Purposes Of The HR Interview

Many people do not fully understand why businesses conduct multiple interviews, yet there is some very good reasoning for this. If you look for the standpoint of a good hiring decision can take a business to new levels never before achieved while a bad hiring decision could take a successful business to the brink of bankruptcy it is easy to understand why businesses are so careful about who they select. Imagine how protective you would be if you were hiring employees for your own business, this is often something that many new business owners dread because they are fearful of hiring the wrong person.

Research has shown over the years however, that the more times you interview someone the more likely you are to really gather a good opinion about them, this allows you to really see the applicant in multiple settings so you can really make the best decision possible. Not everyone is able to really sum up an applicant with only a single short conversation. Some people take several conversations or interviews in order to really get a good feel for someone.

 

Using a HR interview is a good starting point because your HR manager or other authorized and trusted employee can look around and ensure that they are weeding out the potential interviewees that are completely inappropriate. This leaves more time for those who are making the final hiring decisions to only review those applications that are actually worth the time and effort. You can make the initial interviews very brief, and have someone who is good with people to help you distinguish between a potential bad hire, or someone who is simply shy.

With a good hiring system in place and by using tools such as the HR interview, many companies are able to dramatically reduce the amount of time they spend having to continuously rehire as well as reducing your training expenses because you are not retraining for the same position continuously. This enables you to further your efforts in productivity and sales rather than focus all of the energy on hiring.

With a good HR department in place, using an HR interview is simply a smart move that allows you to really benefit from the decision to have an HR department. If you are determined to make all hiring decisions yourself, you could even consider allowing an HR interview before you personally hired anyone to ensure that opinions are all agreed upon before anyone is actually hired. While hiring choices vary from business to business, it is always smart to maximize your hiring impact as much as possible to ensure you are able to have the best experience possible with your business.
