Who Determines HR Policies?

This is a question that is often raised, and many times, there is a different answer for each individual business. The exact right answer for your business may vary, or you may choose to adopt the standard. Typically, however, the roll of creating HR policies is the left to the owner or CEO of a company as well as the HR manager.

With both of these individuals working together they can determine exactly what is needed to help the company the most, while still achieving the goal of reducing turnover, increasing employee loyalty and finally improving profits in the end result. As you can imagine, if this process involved a large number of employees then it would be very difficult to wrap up policy changes in a decent amount of time.

With a small number of employees responsible for making changing to HR policies, or even creating new policies, it ensures that there are a few specific people who are held accountable rather than having a large number of people who are attempting to control the policies of the company. Remember, that while change is sometimes a good thing in business if it involves policies or can affect all of the employees it should be very carefully considered to ensure that it will not cause more problems than it helps resolve.

With a good grasp on what is important it is possible to have huge rewards and benefits from limiting the number of people helping make HR policies. Obviously, you should never remove the owner of the business, nor the HR manager from the procedure. There are however times when it is appropriate to allow some other upper management employees to be involved in the process, however unless you are the owner of a company of at least 1,000 employees you should limit the people to five or fewer.

With a strong focus on what is important and a determination to make your business very successful as well as stable you will be pleasantly surprised about how good things really can be. With so many policies that each business needs it is essential to ensure that HR policies are adapted properly for your business as well as technology and the economy. Never postponing the improvements of policies is sure to help ensure you can be as successful as possible. Choose your employees careful and you will definitely be pleased with the results, but remember; only a few select employees should have any control over creating the HR policies while all employees are held to enforcing the policies.
